On January 1, 2016, the California Fair Pay Act (SB 358) took effect, establishing the strongest equal pay law in the country. Senator Hannah-Beth Jackson, author of Senate Bill 358, joins WLVC to discuss this landmark legislation and her statewide efforts to fight for equality in the workplace, including: 

  • New requirements for employers under the California Fair Pay Act
  • Key changes to California’s Equal Pay Act, as amended by SB 358, which expands employee rights to equal pay for “substantially similar work”
  • Gender bias in the workplace and dynamics which led to the passage of the California Fair Pay Act in 2016
  • Senator Jackson’s role in spearheading the California Fair Pay Act through the legislature
